In the Kyiv region, the SBU foiled a contract killing of a well-known public figure, which, according to the investigation, was organized by a Russian intelligence service. A 19-year-old resident of Mykolaiv was detained while preparing for the crime.
According to law enforcement officials, the suspect had been surveilling the intended victim for a long time and gathering information about his movements. According to sources at “Glavkom,” the victim is lawyer and public figure Hennadiy Druzenko.
According to the investigation, the young man was recruited by the FSB, after which he traveled to Kyiv to carry out the assignment. His Russian handlers provided him with a weapon and the coordinates of a hideout.
The SBU detained the suspect before he could carry out the attack. During searches, authorities seized three pistols with silencers and ammunition, as well as phones containing evidence of his contacts with the Russian intelligence service.
The man has been charged with treason under martial law, preparation for premeditated murder for hire, and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. He is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
