Russian intelligence agencies promised a resident of Bucha 50,000 hryvnias for a terrorist attack in the city
Law enforcement officers detained a suspect believed to be involved in a series of explosions in Bucha within two hours of the incident.
Andriy Kravchuk, head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Kyiv Regional Police, provided RBC-Ukraine with details of the operation.
Russian special services promised the suspect 25,000 hryvnias for each explosion, which was the main motive for committing the terrorist act.
The detainee is a 21-year-old local resident who is currently providing incriminating testimony to investigators.
The arrest was made possible thanks to the coordinated efforts of police officers and the Security Service of Ukraine.
“He was detained during the course of professional operations by police and SBU officers. Investigative proceedings are currently ongoing,” Kravchuk noted.
The young man’s actions have been classified under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which constitutes the commission of a terrorist act.
The penalty under this article is extremely severe and carries a sentence ranging from 15 years of imprisonment to life imprisonment.
The investigation established that the total “fee” the perpetrator expected to receive was 50,000 hryvnias. According to preliminary data, the suspect was to receive 25,000 hryvnias for each individual explosion in the city.
According to law enforcement officials, the primary motive for the crime was solely the desire for quick money.
Currently, investigators are thoroughly examining the theory that the suspect may have been blackmailed by Russian handlers. All communication channels and methods used to transmit instructions to the young man for carrying out the terrorist attacks are being identified.
As a reminder, a double terrorist attack occurred this morning in Bucha near a residential building, injuring police officers.
The SBU also announced that a woman from Kharkiv is under suspicion for luring police officers into a terrorist attack in Lviv.
