Slovakia to File Lawsuit Against the EU Over Ban on Russian Gas — Fico
Slovakia plans to file a lawsuit with the EU Court of Justice in the coming days seeking a ban on Russian gas imports.
This was reported by Reuters.
Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that the government considers this decision a violation of the principles on which EU treaties are based.
According to him, issues regarding sanctions and foreign policy must be decided unanimously, not by a majority vote.
Fico specified that the lawsuit is planned to be filed by April 27.
Hungary previously filed a similar lawsuit.
Despite the EU’s policy of phasing out Russian energy sources, Slovakia and Hungary continue to receive gas from Russia.
On April 16, Slovak authorities handed over a U.S. citizen to Czech law enforcement officials; she is accused of involvement in sabotage at the LPP Holding facility in Pardubice.
Bratislava is prepared to block new sanctions against Russia until oil flows through the Druzhba pipeline, but will not stand in the way of a €90 billion loan to Ukraine.
