The SBU is investigating the Kryvonos case, Zheleznyak said
People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak stated that the criminal proceedings, in which evidence was being gathered against NABU Director Semen Kryvonos, are being investigated by the Security Service of Ukraine. According to him, this is evident from the case number and the materials of the motion, which he has reviewed.
The criminal case in which evidence was being gathered against Semen Kryvonos, director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, is being investigated by the Security Service of Ukraine. According to him, the investigation is being conducted by the investigative department of the SBU’s Main Directorate in Kyiv and the Kyiv region.
Zheleznyak released an excerpt from the case materials referring to criminal case No. 22014101110000061, which was registered on April 25, 2014. The investigation is being conducted on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This article pertains to the receipt of an unlawful benefit on an especially large scale by a public official or an employee holding a position of special responsibility.
What the SBU Indicates
According to the lawmaker, the agency conducting the pretrial investigation can be identified by the criminal case number.
“It is evident from the materials of the motion that the Investigative Department of the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kyiv and the Kyiv Region is conducting a pretrial investigation in criminal proceeding No. 22014101110000061 dated April 25, 2014, on grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” Zheleznyak wrote.
The MP also drew attention to the first digit of the case number.
“The first digit of the criminal case in which the charges were filed, ‘2,’ indicates that the pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU),” he stated.
Thus, according to Yaroslav Zheleznyak, the case materials indicate that the investigation in this criminal proceeding is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine. Other details of the case, including the circumstances under which the case materials regarding Semen Kryvonos were prepared, are not specified in the lawmaker’s statement. There are also no official statements from the SBU or other law enforcement agencies regarding Zheleznyak’s claims in the information provided. This was stated by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, citing materials from the motion in this case.
Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko released records which, according to him, pertain to NABU Director Semen Kryvonos. They allegedly concern the circumstances of a child’s adoption and the possible grounds for exemption from criminal liability.
Earlier, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko reported that he was abroad on an official business trip.
The Anti-Corruption Center stated that Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko allegedly left Ukraine after signing the notice of suspicion against NABU Director Semen Kryvonos. The Anti-Corruption Center claims that this may have been done in exchange for the opportunity to leave the country.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office have denied Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko’s statements regarding the alleged notice of suspicion served on NABU Director Semen Kryvonos and offers of immunity.
NABU Director Semen Kryvonos does not believe there is a conflict between the Bureau and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), though on August 10 he reported illegal actions against NABU employees. According to him, detectives are being systematically monitored, and law enforcement officials are attempting to obtain information about the progress of investigations and planned investigative actions.
In Kryvonos’s case, the commission included international representatives: Karen Greenaway, Povilas Malakauskas, and Drago Kos, who is also a relative of European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
The conditions for a new attack on NABU and the SAPO remain in place, says Kryvonos.

As a reminder, Galushchenko was ordered to post bail of 200 million hryvnias.
