The United States has provided Ukraine with generators and modern equipment to support land reclamation and irrigation

The State Agency of Ukraine for Land Reclamation, Fisheries, and Food Programs has received 40 generators and modern heavy equipment from the U.S. government to support land reclamation systems in frontline and arid regions.

This was announced on Facebook by Oleksiy Sobolev, Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture.

The equipment was transferred through the Agricultural and Rural Development Program (AGRO). The official handover of the equipment was carried out by U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine Julie Davis. “This is just one of several planned deliveries supporting water management organizations and the modernization of irrigation systems in Ukraine. We are grateful to the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine, for its consistent support and for the equipment, which will significantly ease the burden on farmers, especially during the dry summer months,” Sobolev wrote.

The generators will be transferred to organizations in the Odesa and Zaporizhzhia regions for the repair of irrigation systems. Additionally, a modern bulldozer will be delivered to the Kirovohrad region for the cleaning and repair of irrigation canals. The partners plan to continue supplying equipment to other regions as needed.

According to the minister, of Ukraine’s 2.2 million hectares of irrigated land, only about 130,000 hectares are actually irrigated, which negatively impacts crop yields. This is precisely why a land reclamation reform is being implemented in the country.

The first phase began in 2022 with the adoption of a law on water user organizations: 77 such organizations were established, 12 of which received engineering infrastructure as property. The second phase is currently underway—the transition to a modern service-based management model involving non-profit state operators and investments.

“Ukrainian farmers are currently working under extremely difficult conditions. Therefore, the support of the U.S. government and the American people is critically important. And not only for the recovery and development of the sector, but also to ensure that Ukraine remains a reliable supplier of agricultural products, guaranteeing food security for millions of people around the world,” Sobolev concluded.

Earlier, Ukraine announced the launch of the third phase of EU projects to support the agricultural sector and implement European standards, with funding exceeding 12 million euros.

Finland has provided Ukraine with a significant aid package to respond to oil spills and mitigate the consequences of such accidents. The equipment will enable Ukrainian services to respond more quickly and effectively to environmental threats and minimize damage to the environment.
