A court has imposed a pretrial restraint on a high school student who carried out a shooting in Zakarpattia
In Zakarpattia, a 15-year-old teenager who opened fire at a school in the Uzhhorod district has been taken into custody. An investigating judge ordered the suspect to be held in custody for 60 days without the possibility of bail.
This was reported by the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The teenager’s actions have been classified as an attempted murder of two or more persons under the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Law enforcement officials are currently working to determine the motives behind the act and are investigating all circumstances of the incident.
Previously, similar incidents involving the use of weapons were recorded in other regions, particularly in Russia, but this case is particularly high-profile for Transcarpathia. The motion for the most severe preventive measure was prepared by the juvenile prosecutor of the Uzhhorod District Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will remain in custody during the pre-trial investigation. Police are verifying the origin of the weapon and the possible involvement of third parties in inciting the teenager. The charge of attempted murder carries a sentence of long-term imprisonment. The trial is proceeding with due regard to the suspect’s status as a minor.
Law enforcement authorities assure that all case materials will be thoroughly examined. The local community and school administration are cooperating with investigators to restore a safe environment at the school. A two-month pretrial detention is standard procedure for crimes of this severity. The court will subsequently hear the case on its merits after all necessary expert examinations are completed. The public is awaiting the official results of the investigation into the teenager’s mental state. The situation is under special supervision by the regional prosecutor’s office.
