The City Mall shopping center in Zaporizhzhia will remain closed until the end of September
The City Mall shopping and entertainment complex in Zaporizhzhia will be closed throughout September 2026. The complex’s administration announced the temporary closure in an official statement.
“City Mall will be closed in September. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience and thank you for your understanding,” the statement reads.
No official reason was given for the temporary closure. The administration only noted that it would provide updates on further changes and the reopening of the complex.
Meanwhile, the announcement of the closure came after a Russian strike on the “Epicenter” hypermarket in Zaporizhzhia on August 28. The facility is located near City Mall.
As a result of the attack by a Russian drone, a massive fire broke out on the hypermarket’s premises, covering an area of approximately 2,000 square meters.
Russian strikes continue to inflict significant damage on Ukraine’s retail infrastructure.
According to data as of August 2026, three shopping centers have been destroyed in Ukraine since the beginning of the year as a result of Russian attacks, and nine other facilities have been damaged.
Direct losses to the sector from Russian attacks in 2026 are estimated at 3.226 billion hryvnia, or about $72.5 million.
At this time, City Mall’s management has not announced a specific date for resuming operations and has not disclosed the circumstances that will prevent the complex from operating throughout September.

As a reminder, the “Karavan” shopping and entertainment center in Dnipro is once again operating as usual after repairs were completed following the Russian attack on the night of August 25.
In August, shopping centers in Ukraine lost an average of 6.4 business days due to air raid alerts. These alerts accounted for 21.8% of the total operating time of shopping centers—the highest figure recorded during the entire observation period. The situation remains most challenging in regions near the front lines, but a noticeable deterioration over the past month was also recorded in Kyiv and the Kyiv region.
