The first flamingos have arrived at the national parks in the Odesa region

The first groups of pink flamingos have arrived at the Tuzly Estuaries National Nature Park in the Odesa region following their winter migration.

Currently, about 50 birds have been spotted in the water bodies; they are the vanguard of a large flock expected to arrive in the region in the near future.

Ivan Rusev, an ecologist and employee of the national park, reported that the first birds appeared in the estuaries as early as late March.

Scientists refer to these birds as “scouts” because they arrive ahead of the main flock to assess the condition of the territories and find safe resting spots.

“There aren’t many of them yet—up to 50 individuals. Thousands are expected to arrive soon,” noted Ivan Rusev.

He explained that the birds are currently constantly migrating between the park’s various estuaries, making it quite difficult to capture them in photos or videos.

Experts emphasize that nesting is not yet on the agenda at this stage, as the birds are merely regaining their strength after a long flight.

Their main task is to find food sources and coastal areas protected from predators and external disturbances.

In addition to the Tuzlivski estuaries, these exotic birds have also been spotted in the Kuyalnik Estuary, which is also located in the Odesa region.

The press service of the Kuyalnik National Nature Park confirmed the presence of pink flamingos, emphasizing the importance of this body of water for migratory birds.

In the Poltava region, the storks Lel and Kvitka lost their nest due to the return of its former owners

In addition, some of Ukraine’s most revered birds—storks—are beginning to return to the Chernobyl zone, heralding the arrival of spring.
