The Rada is confident that Mykhailo Fedorov will lose his position as defense minister
Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov will lose his position as part of a major reshuffle of the Cabinet of Ministers, according to comments made by members of parliament to the media.
According to sources in government circles, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy currently has no plans to renominate Fedorov for the position of defense minister. During preliminary consultations, the president had offered him the position of head of the future Cabinet of Ministers, but the defense minister declined, as he wished to continue the military reforms he had begun six months ago. Instead, the current head of Naftogaz, Serhiy Koretskyi, may become the new head of government.
The candidacy of the current Minister of Internal Affairs, Igor Klymenko, is currently being actively considered for the position of Minister of Defense of Ukraine. If he is transferred to the Defense Ministry, the Ministry of Internal Affairs could be headed by the current head of the National Police, Ivan Vygivsky. Fedorov himself may be offered the chance to return to the Ministry of Digital Transformation or take on another government position.
RBC-Ukraine reports this, citing sources among members of parliament.
Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak has revealed the likely composition of the new Cabinet of Ministers, which may be headed by Serhiy Koretskyi. At the same time, a final decision on some of the candidates has not yet been made, particularly regarding Fedorov.
Zelenskyy also stated that he has not yet made a decision regarding Fedorov’s future in the government.
