In Russia, a court has sentenced Oleksiy Kyryushchenko, the son of the director of the TV series *Svat* and *Servant of the People*, to life in prison. His son, Vasyl Kyryushchenko, was found guilty of engaging in hostilities against Russian forces and has been placed on the wanted list. The occupying authorities claim that he allegedly participated in organizing special operations on Russian territory.
What is known about Vasyl Kyryushchenko’s sentence in Russia
The verdict was handed down by Russia’s 2nd Western District Military Court.
In addition to life imprisonment, Kiryushchenko was fined 2 million rubles, and civil claims totaling over 7 million rubles were awarded.
The decision was handed down in absentia, as he is outside the Russian Federation. Russian security forces identify 32-year-old Kiryushchenko as a member of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC), which is fighting on the side of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, he was involved in organizing a unit’s raid into the Bryansk region in March 2023.
The aggressor state found Kiryushchenko guilty under 13 articles of the criminal code, including the creation of a “terrorist community,” illegal crossing of the state border, and arms smuggling. Russian authorities have also placed him on an international wanted list.
Who is Vasyl Kyryushchenko
Vasyl “Cardinal” Kyryushchenko was born in 1994.
He received his higher education in Moscow, graduating from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, after which he worked in the real estate business for some time.
In 2021, shortly before the start of the full-scale invasion, he moved to Kyiv.
With the start of the full-scale war, Kiryushchenko joined the RDK. Over the years of the "full-scale" conflict, he served on various fronts, carrying out combat and special missions.
According to Russian sources, within the RDK structure, he was also responsible for training and recruiting new members.
