In Vinnytsia, a former medical university student was convicted for supporting Russia

The Vinnytsia City Court sentenced a former medical university student in absentia to 10 years in prison for collaborating with the enemy and supporting Russian propaganda after fleeing to Russia.

This was reported by the court’s press service.

According to the court, in June 2023, the defendant left Ukraine and moved to Russia.

“The court established that in June 2023, the defendant left the territory of Ukraine and moved to live in the aggressor state with the aim of spreading propaganda in support of the enemy, creating the image of the legality of the occupation of part of the Donetsk region and legitimizing said occupation, as well as to support the activities of the occupying authorities in the seized territories,” the court noted.

The investigation established that the woman collaborated with Russian propagandists and gave an interview containing statements in support of the Russian Federation.

The court reported that the defendant had been duly informed of the proceedings, but she did not appear at the hearings.

Following the trial, the court found her guilty under Part 6 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—collaboration.

In addition to 10 years in prison, the court also imposed a 15-year ban on holding positions in government and local self-government bodies, as well as the confiscation of all her property in favor of the State of Ukraine.

The verdict has not yet taken legal effect.

The court’s press service clarified that the convicted person is Polina Kocherga.

According to local media reports, she studied at the Pirogov Vinnitsa National Medical University from 2019 to 2023.

Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine reported the detention of another member of an FSB spy network that collected data on Ukrainian defense forces and transmitted it to the enemy to coordinate strikes in the Kharkiv region.
