Ukrainian developers have unveiled a new drone for radio communication

The Ukrainian company ROBONEERS has unveiled its new WARDOG TRN unmanned aerial system, designed to provide stable radio communication in challenging conditions.

The drone functions as an aerial relay, helping to maintain reliable communication between units and equipment over significant distances. The development is designed to improve communication efficiency and ensure stable signal transmission even in areas with interference or challenging terrain.

The TRN version is designed to maintain a reliable control and video communication channel between ground and air assets in conditions where ground-based communication infrastructure is unavailable.

The WARDOG TRN carries relay equipment as a payload weighing up to 3 kg and deploys an airborne communication node at altitudes of up to 900 meters.

A 2.4 GHz digital communication channel, combined with an optical inertial navigation system, ensures stable flight and reliable operation day and night.

The platform is capable of operating in conditions of complex terrain, dense urban areas, and active electronic countermeasures—precisely where traditional communication methods lose coverage.

The WARDOG TRN extends the control and video transmission range of UAVs by acting as an aerial relay.

Key tactical and technical characteristics:

  • Tactical range of operation — up to 10 km;

  • Flight altitude — up to 900 m;

  • Endurance — up to 1 hour;

  • Speed — up to 68 km/h;

  • Payload — up to 3 kg.

The WARDOG drone lineup, which includes the TRN and SCOUT models, is based on a common platform and designed as a suite of complementary solutions.

The SCOUT conducts real-time aerial reconnaissance, detects targets in the visible and infrared spectrums, and transmits video in 4K format.

In turn, the TRN maintains a communication channel through which this information is transmitted to operators and adjacent UAVs.

Together, they form a basic aerial communication and reconnaissance loop for units operating in conditions of active electronic warfare and complex terrain.

The company stated that the new model was developed based on the WARDOG drone series.

Ukrainian drones have been equipped with navigation similar to the Tomahawk system.

As a reminder, the Ministry of Defense will recover 617 million hryvnias through the courts for terminated contracts.

Recently, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine codified and approved for use in the Armed Forces of Ukraine three fiber-optic FPV systems manufactured by enterprises of JSC “Ukrainian Defense Industry.”

Prior to this, the Ministry of Defense had codified and approved the domestic unmanned aerial system “Volynaka” for use in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine approved the Shablya MK19(M) remotely controlled combat module for use by the troops. It is equipped with an MK19 40mm automatic grenade launcher.
