Ukrainian government approves list of countries whose citizens can obtain Ukrainian passports

The Ukrainian government has approved a list of countries whose citizens can obtain Ukrainian passports without renouncing their previous citizenship. This became possible thanks to the law on multiple citizenship that came into force in July. The list includes the United States, Canada, Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic, which have the largest communities of Ukrainians and have traditionally supported Ukraine. The government hopes that this decision will help strengthen ties between Ukraine and the global Ukrainian diaspora.

There are an estimated three million ethnic Ukrainians currently living in these countries, and the Ukrainian authorities hope that news communication with these groups will become more active. However, there are concerns that this could lead to the loss of Ukrainian citizens, as it is believed that dual citizenship will make it easier to obtain rights in their new countries of residence.

Critics of the legislation also express concern about possible negative consequences. However, it is predicted that after the war is over, interest in obtaining Ukrainian citizenship may increase, especially in the context of new benefits for foreigners who are fighting on the side of Ukraine or have special services to the state.
