The government has allocated 1.2 billion hryvnia for the modernization of high schools and the creation of state-of-the-art STEM labs
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allocated 1.2 billion hryvnias for a large-scale renovation of educational facilities in lyceums that will participate in the pilot program for the specialized upper-secondary school reform. The main goal of this funding is to create an innovative learning environment that includes modern science laboratories, specialized classrooms, and high-quality digital infrastructure.
According to Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi, state resources will be allocated to those educational institutions that are already fully prepared to deploy and launch new technical facilities in the near future. The head of the Ministry of Education and Science announced this on his official Facebook page.
Financial assistance will be allocated according to clear, targeted areas depending on the specific nature of the educational institutions’ work. In particular, each pilot lyceum will receive ten million hryvnias to equip advanced STEM laboratories and specialized classrooms for physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics, which will be fully equipped with all necessary equipment for conducting practical classes and scientific experiments. At the same time, lyceums operating in a distance learning format will receive two million hryvnias each to purchase modern computer hardware and specialized software to improve the effectiveness of online learning.
The minister emphasized that the focus on practical training should significantly increase Ukrainian students’ interest in natural and technical disciplines. It is precisely in these fields that the state currently faces an acute shortage of qualified personnel—the country critically needs its own engineers, technologists, and specialists in the fields of energy, transportation, industrial production, and the defense sector to rebuild infrastructure and ensure the overall stability of the economy. In addition, the government’s decision will allow for the renovation of classrooms for middle school students in special schools and educational-rehabilitation centers, as well as adjust funding for the establishment of “Defense of Ukraine” learning centers in accordance with the current requests of regional military administrations.
The Ministry of Educationexplained how the educational process in schools will be structured.
Over 4,000 educational institutions in Ukraine have been damaged due to the war, according to Lisovyi.
