Government sets timeline and priorities for restoring strategic highways in 2026
Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko has instructed the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, together with the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, to ensure immediate readiness to begin routine road repairs.
According to the head of government, writing on Telegram, favourable weather conditions have been defined as the key criterion for launching large-scale works. This will allow road services to begin restoring road surfaces in the near future.
Priority will be given to strategic routes that are critically important for defence needs, community logistics and the stable functioning of critical infrastructure facilities.
The 2026 state budget already allocates the necessary funds for the maintenance and repair of public roads. Despite existing financing, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is actively seeking additional resources and attracting international assistance to expand the scope of restoration work. The prime minister stressed the importance of responding promptly to road damage caused by hostilities and heavy winter use, noting that reliable logistics are a key component of national security.
Minister Oleksii Kuleba is tasked with coordinating regional branches of the Restoration Agency to prepare repair schedules for the most problematic sections of highways. Particular emphasis will be placed on logistics corridors leading to border crossings and supporting export-import operations.
The government expects that a timely start to the works will help prevent further deterioration of road surfaces and reduce the cost of future major reconstruction.
Earlier, Ukraine’s anti-corruption authorities completed an investigation into five individuals allegedly involved in the embezzlement of more than UAH 392 million during road repairs in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
In Chernivtsi, city council officials have been formally notified of suspicion over the alleged misappropriation of UAH 3.5 million allocated for road repairs.
