In Odesa, law enforcement officers exposed and detained an official from the Regional Military Registration and Enlistment Office (RMREO) and the Joint Staff, who is suspected of receiving 300,000 hryvnias for transferring a conscript to a rear unit. The operation was carried out by officers of the National Police’s Special Investigation Department in cooperation with investigators from the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa region.
According to the investigation, the suspect, while serving as the head of the administrative department of one of the Regional Recruitment and Social Support Centers, offered a soldier from an assault regiment a transfer to a rear unit.
For 300,000 hryvnias, he promised to “influence” the “necessary” official at the district recruitment and social support center. The “service” also included the possibility of subsequently having the servicemember declared unfit for service based on the results of a medical examination.
Police detained the broker immediately after he received the illicit benefit. After gathering sufficient evidence, investigators notified the suspect of the charges against him.
The court imposed a pretrial detention order on the suspect, with the option of posting bail in the amount of 998,400 hryvnias.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. He faces up to five years in prison.
