Prices for apples in Ukraine are expected to drop by up to 20%
Most Ukrainian fruit growers expect wholesale prices for apples to fall in the second half of the 2026/2027 season. They cite a larger harvest, higher logistics costs, and increased production in other countries as the reasons.
EastFruit reports this, citing the results of a survey of market participants. According to the survey, among respondents who expressed a definite opinion, 43% forecast a decline in prices, 29% expect them to rise, and another 29% do not anticipate any significant changes.
Market participants consider a 11–20% drop in wholesale prices in January–May 2027 to be the most likely scenario. This view was expressed by 25% of those surveyed. Another 14% believe the decline could exceed 21%.
Andriy Yarmak, an economist with the Investment Department of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), explained that a significant increase in the apple harvest is expected in Ukraine in 2026. At the same time, the market will face pressure from rising maritime logistics costs, as well as increased apple production in Moldova and Turkey.
According to analysts’ estimates, part of the excess supply could be absorbed by markets in Central Asia and the Caucasus, particularly Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, where lower harvests are forecast. However, if producers begin actively selling apples as early as the harvest period, prices in the second half of the season may remain at this year’s levels.

As a reminder, in Ukraine in August 2026, buckwheat may rise in price to 80–83 hryvnias per kilogram. Despite a slight decline in price in July, there are currently no prerequisites for further price reductions, according to the Institute of Agricultural Economics.
In July, vegetables from the new harvest became significantly cheaper in Ukraine, especially potatoes, carrots, beets, cabbage, and cucumbers. At the same time, some fruits, berries, and greenhouse vegetables remain expensive due to the heat, storage costs, and seasonal factors.
