The Supreme Court dismissed Portnov's lawsuit challenging his inclusion in the register of traitors
The Supreme Court overturned the decisions of the lower courts and dismissed the case brought by Andriy Portnov, a former member of parliament and ally of Yanukovych, against the “Chesno” movement. The former lawmaker sought a court order compelling the organization to remove and refute information about him from the “Register of Traitors.”
Previously, the Pechersk District Court had ordered the “Chesno” movement to remove Portnov’s profile and pay over 232,000 hryvnias in court costs, while the appellate court later reduced this amount to 83,700 hryvnias.
The organization appealed these rulings, and on August 19, 2026, the Supreme Court dismissed the case due to the plaintiff’s death, as such disputes do not allow for succession. The court also ruled that the lower courts had violated the procedural rights of the parties by hearing the case without summoning them, despite their objections.
