Veterans may be reimbursed up to 120,000 hryvnias for a car

Ukraine may introduce a new support program for veterans with war-related disabilities. Bills providing for partial compensation for the cost of a car—up to 120,000 hryvnias—will be introduced in the Verkhovna Rada.

The initiative was proposed by Danylo Getmantsev, chairman of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax, and customs policy. According to him, for many veterans, having their own car is not a luxury but a necessity for medical treatment, work, and daily life.

Danylo Getmantsev, chairman of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax, and customs policy, announced the registration of two bills intended to introduce a new form of state support for people with war-related disabilities. The bills provide for partial reimbursement of the cost of a car that a veteran has purchased with their own funds. The maximum amount of such reimbursement is proposed to be set at 120,000 hryvnias.

According to Getmantsev, for many veterans, having their own car is essential for daily life. “For many veterans, a car means the ability to get to a doctor or a rehabilitation center, to work, to study, and to lead a full life,” he noted.

What the bill proposes

The first bill proposes creating a new mechanism for state assistance. If a person with a war-related disability purchases a car on their own, they will be able to receive partial reimbursement of its cost from the state.

This will give veterans greater opportunities for mobility, receiving medical treatment, finding employment, and returning to an active life. The authors of the initiative emphasize that for many people, after being wounded, a car becomes a necessary means of transportation rather than a luxury.

Where the Funds Will Come From

The second bill concerns the program’s funding. It provides for amendments to Ukraine’s 2026 State Budget to ensure the payment of compensation. At the same time, they propose allocating funds to launch the program as early as this year so that it can begin quickly once the laws are passed. “We propose allocating funding right now so that the program can get underway without delay,” explained Getmantsev.

What’s Next

Currently, the bills have only been registered with the Verkhovna Rada. They will first be reviewed by the relevant committees, after which the documents will be put to a vote by members of parliament. If parliament supports the initiative, veterans with war-related disabilities will be eligible for compensation of up to 120,000 hryvnias for the purchase of a vehicle. The authors of the bills believe that such assistance will be another step toward supporting military personnel who were wounded while defending Ukraine and will help them return to a full life more quickly.
