The explosion at the testing range near Khmelnytskyi was not caused by an incoming projectile
The cause of the ammunition detonation at the training ground near Khmelnytskyi has not yet been determined. At the same time, the investigation has confirmed that the explosion was not caused by a Russian munition.
This was stated by Deputy Prosecutor General Andriy Leshchenko. According to him, forensic examinations of physical evidence are ongoing at the scene, and the cause of the detonation is to be determined by an explosives analysis.
One servicemember was killed in the explosion. Four more servicemembers are considered missing. Molecular genetic testing has been ordered to identify the human remains that have been recovered.
The investigation is currently considering three main theories. These include sabotage, intentional unlawful actions by military officials, and the spontaneous detonation of ammunition due to a possible technical malfunction.
Leshchenko emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and no one has been formally charged at this time.

Search operations continue in the Khmelnytskyi region following the emergency that occurred on July 31 at a military training ground. K-9 units from the State Emergency Service, including German and Belgian shepherds, have been deployed to survey the area.

The remains have already been sent for forensic medical and molecular genetic analysis to identify the victims.
