Since the announcement of the suspicion against the leader of the “Batkivshchyna” party, Yulia Tymoshenko, for bribing members of parliament, social media has exploded with memes that play on the most famous moments of this long-standing politician’s life. First and foremost, Ukrainians recalled Tymoshenko’s release from the Kachanivska penal colony in 2014. They also remembered her appearance at the Maidan on a wheelchair, since she was serving her sentence in the prison hospital. Public accusations by parliamentarians of Tymoshenko’s financial manipulations were also mentioned.
It should be noted that the session of the High Anti-Corruption Court in the case of “Batkivshchyna” party leader Yulia Tymoshenko on the morning of January 16, where the issue of preventive measures was decided, attracted more attendees than the building’s capacity allowed.
The leader of the “Batkivshchyna” parliamentary faction, Yulia Tymoshenko, stated that she would appeal the decision regarding her bail in the appellate instance. The politician does not plan to pay the bail. Tymoshenko herself denies any guilt, calling the case a political order and revenge by anti-corruption authorities for her stance on attempts to limit NABU’s powers in the summer of 2025.
