Car owners with INZ registration must obtain a plastic registration certificate, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs
Drivers of vehicles with personalized license plates (PLPs) must carry not only electronic documents in the “Diia” app but also the original plastic vehicle registration certificate while driving.
A personalized license plate is in addition to the standard state license plate. It is custom-made for the owner and used after it has been officially assigned to a specific vehicle.
After receiving the PNL, the owner must apply to the local service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs within 10 days to re-register the vehicle.
During re-registration, information about the personalized license plate is entered into the Unified State Register of Vehicles. In addition, a corresponding entry is made in the “Special Notes” section of the registration certificate, after which the document is replaced.
It is this entry in the plastic registration certificate that confirms the legality of using the individual license plate.
However, in the digital vehicle registration certificate in the “Diia” app, information about the individual license plate is not displayed in the “Special Notes” section.
Therefore, when driving a vehicle with a personalized license plate, the driver must carry the plastic registration certificate with the corresponding entry.
There are several important requirements regarding the use of personalized license plates.
When traveling abroad, only standard license plates are permitted. A personalized license plate does not replace the state registration number and may be used in its place only within Ukraine. Before leaving the country, the vehicle must be equipped with standard state license plates.
The custom license plate is assigned to the owner. If the vehicle is sold or re-registered to another person, the custom license plate may remain with the previous owner. It may subsequently be installed on another vehicle.
The INZ must be officially registered. It is prohibited to install and use an individual license plate without first completing the necessary registration procedures at a Ministry of Internal Affairs service center within 10 days of receiving it.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs Service Center has urged drivers to check that they have all necessary documents before traveling.
