Zelenskyy warned of the risk of Belarus being drawn into the war

Ukraine has observed increased activity by Russian troops in border regions of Belarus, where, according to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, roads and artillery positions are being established—a development that may indicate preparations for new scenarios of pressure on the Ukrainian border. The president states that Russia may attempt to draw Belarus into the war, and Kyiv is already responding to these risks through diplomatic and military channels.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that during a briefing by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, the situation on the front lines and the increase in military activity near the Ukrainian border from the Belarusian side were discussed, where, according to Ukrainian intelligence, engineering work and the deployment of elements of potential firing positions are being observed.

According to the president, Ukrainian units continue to hold their positions and inflict losses on Russian troops, and the rate of destruction of the occupiers in April remains high, which, in his view, prevents Russia from seizing the initiative on the front lines.

Zelenskyy separately emphasized that Ukraine sees signs of a possible regrouping of Russian forces, which may be linked to a shortage of personnel, and against this backdrop, the role of the Belarusian front as a potential lever of pressure is growing. “According to intelligence reports, roads are being built from the Belarusian border into Ukrainian territory, and artillery positions are being established. We believe that Russia will once again attempt to drag Belarus into its war,” Zelenskyy stated.

He added that the Ukrainian side is already conveying relevant warnings through diplomatic channels, emphasizing its readiness to defend its territory in the event of any threats from the north.

Separately, the president and military leadership discussed Ukraine’s future long-range operations on Russian territory, which, according to him, remain a crucial element of deterrence and military pressure.

Zelenskyy also announced news regarding missiles for the Patriot system following a conversation with the NATO Secretary General.

Prior to this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked his Bulgarian partners for this decision and noted that it would help Ukraine strengthen its air defense system ahead of the upcoming heating season.
