The Armed Forces of Ukraine congratulated Poland on Polish Armed Forces Day

The Armed Forces of Ukraine congratulated the Polish military and the Polish people on Polish Armed Forces Day, which is celebrated on August 15. The General Staff thanked Poland for its long-standing support of Ukraine and recalled their joint struggle against Russian imperialism.

Polish Armed Forces Day is celebrated in Poland on August 15. On this day, the country commemorates its victory in the Battle of Warsaw in 1920. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasized that at that time, the Polish military, together with units of the Army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, halted the Bolshevik offensive.

“August 15 is Polish Army Day (Święto Wojska Polskiego). On this day, Poland commemorates its victory in the Battle of Warsaw in 1920, when the Polish Army, together with units of the Army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, halted the Bolshevik invasion and defended freedom,” the message reads. The General Staff noted that the joint struggle against Moscow’s imperialism continues today—now on the Ukrainian front.

Ukraine thanked Poland for its military support

The Ukrainian military expressed gratitude to Poland for the assistance the country has been providing to Ukraine since 2014, and especially since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. Separately, the General Staff highlighted Poland’s participation in international initiatives and military frameworks that assist Ukraine.

These include, in particular, the “Ramstein” framework, the Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian Brigade (LITPOLUKRBRIG), the EUMAM Ukraine mission, the NSATU initiative, and the NATO-Ukraine Joint Center (JATEC). Poland also participates in Operation LEGIO, assists with the training of Ukrainian military personnel, and provides vital logistical support. “This cooperation brings the Armed Forces of Ukraine closer to full interoperability with NATO and EU armies,” the General Staff noted.

Thanks for sheltering Ukrainians

The Ukrainian Armed Forces also thanked the Polish people for helping Ukrainian families who were forced to leave their homes due to Russian aggression. During the greeting, the Ukrainian side paid special tribute to Ukrainian citizens of Polish descent and Polish volunteers who died defending freedom.

The General Staff emphasized that the historic cooperation between Ukraine and Poland continues today through joint military efforts, support for the Ukrainian army, and countering Russian aggression. The congratulatory message was published on the official Facebook page of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

August 15 marks Polish Armed Forces Day in Poland—one of the country’s major national holidays related to its military history. The date commemorates the Polish Army’s victory in the Battle of Warsaw in 1920, which marked a turning point in the Polish-Bolshevik War.

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi congratulated the Polish people on Polish Army Day and thanked the allies for their support. The Ukrainian general recorded his message in Polish.
