The Achilles Battalion has taken out nearly 800 Russian occupiers in the past month
On August 6, Major Yuriy Fedorenko, commander of the 429th “Achilles” Unmanned Systems Brigade, reported that one of the unit’s battalions had killed nearly 800 Russian soldiers in the past month. According to him, despite the constant deployment of Russian reserves, Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the enemy’s advance.
Fedorenko noted that since its creation, the “Achilles” unit has almost never operated in just one sector.
The brigade has been regularly redeployed to the most challenging sections of the front to stabilize the situation, conduct aerial reconnaissance, and strike the enemy.
He noted that, despite the successes of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Zaporizhzhia sector, Russian troops continue to redeploy reserves, regroup, and attempt to advance toward Zaporizhzhia.
According to him, the Russian command disregards personnel losses and continues to deploy troops en masse in assault operations.
At the same time, Ukrainian defenders are inflicting significant losses on the enemy. The commander reported that a single battalion of the 429th Brigade, which was carrying out combat missions in the Zaporizhzhia sector, killed or wounded nearly 800 Russian occupiers in May.
Separately, Fedorenko drew attention to the situation in the north of the country. According to him, the Russian command continues to search for weak spots along the state border and is attempting to create conditions for an advance in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions. However, in his assessment, the Defense Forces are successfully thwarting these intentions.
The commander of “Achilles” also urged people not to underestimate the enemy. He emphasized that Russia possesses significant human, financial, and industrial resources and is capable of conducting covert mobilization and scaling up the production of modern weapons and unmanned systems, particularly jet-powered strike drones.
In his view, Russia’s war against Ukraine will not end merely with the cessation of active hostilities.
After the intense phase—during which missiles, artillery, and drones are used—the Kremlin will attempt to prolong the conflict through political, economic, and information warfare.
Fedorenko emphasized that Ukraine will be able to withstand the conflict only if society remains united, as the primary goal of Ukrainians remains the defense of the state and the right to live on their own land.
