Butenko called the Russian drone strike on a school in Kyiv a cynical act of terrorism
Andriy Butenko, Ukraine’s Minister of Education and Science, responded to a Russian drone strike on a school in Kyiv. According to him, Ukrainian educational institutions have become one of Russia’s constant targets.
“This morning, a Russian drone struck a four-story school in the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv. A fire broke out after the strike, and rescue workers are on the scene. At the time of the strike, all the children and school staff were in shelters. No one was injured. I thank the teachers and the school administration for their clear and timely actions,” Butenko wrote on his Telegram channel on Thursday.
The minister noted that recently, a kindergarten, school, college, university, or research institution has been coming under fire virtually every day. “Therefore, the safety of those involved in the educational process remains the top priority. During an air raid alert, taking shelter is the only option for every child and every adult. The educational process must be organized in accordance with the security situation in each community,” he added.
The Kyiv Police report that, according to preliminary information, there were no casualties as a result of an enemy UAV striking a school building in the Solomyanskyi district of the capital on Thursday morning. At the time of the attack, more than 100 students and about 60 school staff members were in a shelter.
“The strike damaged the facade of the school building at the third-floor level, causing a subsequent fire. Police officers, bomb disposal experts, and State Emergency Service rescuers are currently working at the scene,” according to a police statement on Telegram.
