Russia Begins Importing Doctors from North Korea Due to Staff Shortages
Medical facilities in Moscow have recorded the first cases of North Korean doctors working in the city, indicating the aggressor’s attempts to address the acute personnel shortage in its healthcare system by employing labor from Pyongyang.
According to an investigation by NK News, a specialist in traditional medicine, Kim Myong Su, has begun practicing at the Moscow clinic “Jin Yu” (“Goldfish”). The medical center’s website features his detailed resume and a video in which the doctor, speaking with a distinct North Korean accent, discusses Eastern medicine methods and his 35 years of professional experience.
Kim Myong Su is a graduate of Pyongyang Medical University and specializes in acupuncture and pulse-based diagnostics. Before arriving in Russia, he led clinics in China—a common practice for North Korean specialists whom the regime sends abroad to earn foreign currency. As Russia deepens its military and economic cooperation with North Korea, the recruitment of medical professionals becomes part of a broader strategy to replace scarce specialists who have either left the country or been mobilized for the war.
Meanwhile, North Korea launched several ballistic missiles toward the Sea of Japan. The President of South Korea has proposed restoring contacts with North Korea.
It is worth recalling that North Korea provides over 40% of Russia’s military supplies.
