The German Chancellor called for an end to Russia's war against Ukraine on the front lines

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called on Russia to cease hostilities, freeze the front line, and begin negotiations with Ukraine. At the same time, he emphasized that Europe is prepared to continue increasing economic pressure on Moscow.

Merz made these remarks during the opening of the Conference on Ukraine’s Recovery in Gdańsk, Poland, according to Bild.

According to the chancellor, the current situation on the battlefield creates conditions for a diplomatic resolution to the war.

“We are sending a clear signal to Russia: it is time to begin negotiations, freeze the front line, and stop the killing,” Merz said.

He emphasized that following the G7 summit, European countries and the United States remain united in their support for Ukraine.

The chancellor assured that Germany will continue to provide Kyiv with political, military, and economic assistance.

“Russia will not win this war. Europe’s support for Ukraine remains unwavering. We are ready to increase pressure on the Russian economy,” Merz emphasized.
