The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has agreed on a local ceasefire to restore power supply at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has achieved the establishment of another local ceasefire in the area of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
The achievement of this agreement was officially announced by the IAEA press service via the social media platform X.
The main purpose of the agreement is to create safe conditions for carrying out repair work on the backup power line with a voltage of 330 kilovolts.
This decision will allow specialists to begin critically important work to restore stable electricity supply to the largest nuclear facility in Europe, which regularly faces the threat of blackouts.
“Another local ceasefire, agreed through the mediation of the IAEA, is now in effect in order to allow the restoration of backup power supply to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant via the 330-kilovolt line,” the international organization stated.
The Director General of the agency, Rafael Grossi, emphasized that the situation around the plant remains tense due to the mining of adjacent areas. Active demining operations are currently underway to ensure unobstructed and safe access for repair teams to the damaged networks.
It should be recalled that the IAEA held an extraordinary meeting due to nuclear risks and Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
The IAEA also warns about the critical situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is holding on at its last line of defense.
