The mayor of Moscow commented on the idea of moving Russia's capital to another region
Following a massive drone attack, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin commented on the idea of possibly relocating Russia’s capital to another region. The official made this statement during a discussion on the issue of uneven development among Russian regions.
Sobyanin commented on the proposal against the backdrop of a massive drone attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Moscow—the capital of the aggressor country.
“The first thing that comes to mind when people talk about how to make all regions like Moscow is, probably, to move the capital of our homeland to different regions every year. And, lo and behold, everyone will live happily ever after,” Sobyanin said.
At the same time, the mayor of Moscow immediately noted that such a practice does not solve the problem of regional development. According to him, moving the capital in other countries has primarily led to additional expenses from the federal budget, while the effectiveness of such a decision was “practically close to zero.”
Sobyanin’s statement came after a large-scale drone attack on Moscow and the Moscow Region on the night of September 19–20. The mayor himself called it the most massive attack on the capital. According to him, since September 19, Russian air defense forces have allegedly shot down more than 1,600 drones, 450 of which were heading directly for Moscow.

As a result of Russian attacks on September 20 in the Zhytomyr region, a fire broke out at a transportation infrastructure facility, and dry grass also caught fire.
The death toll from Russian attacks in the Kyiv region has risen to four. A child who was injured during a strike on the Vyshhorod district died in the hospital. Among the dead are three children and a woman.
Due to the fires in the Kyiv region, smoke and the smell of burning may be present in the capital.
