A well-known MMA fighter from Vinnytsia region was killed in Donetsk region

Oleksandr Dedov, a Ukrainian mixed martial arts champion and soldier, was killed on the front lines. This occurred on April 7, 2026, in the Donetsk region while he was carrying out a combat mission, according to the "Book of Heroes" project.

Oleksandr served in the “Phoenix” drone operator unit. According to his comrades, Russian troops shelled their positions with artillery. The soldier sustained severe injuries that proved fatal.

He began his military service back in 2018 as part of the Mohyliv-Podilskyi Border Guard Detachment. He later mastered drone operations and continued his service in a combat unit. Oleksandr was from Tulchyn. He loved sports from childhood—first soccer, and then he became passionate about martial arts. He trained at the Gepard club, where he quickly demonstrated character and perseverance.

The Ukrainian MMA Federation recalls that he always knew what he wanted and never missed a training session, even while on duty. “He was a very determined and hardworking fighter,” the federation says. Dedov earned the title of Candidate Master of Sports, became the champion of Ukraine, and won numerous regional and national tournaments. While serving in the military, he represented his unit in hand-to-hand combat and mixed martial arts competitions.

His comrades and acquaintances say he helped others a lot. “He always offered advice, provided support, and shared his experience,” recall athletes from the Vinnytsia region. He dreamed of becoming a coach and working with young people. On the front lines, he was known not only as a strong fighter but also as a man of character. “He was brave, quick-witted, and very dedicated. Plus, he was a great cook and loved music,” his comrades say.

Oleksandr studied hard and seized every opportunity to grow. Despite his tough demeanor, forged in sports, he remained open and friendly in life. His death is a loss for both sports and the army. He defended the country and gave his life for it.

Russian state polling agencies continue to record a decline in support for President Vladimir Putin amid Telegram blocks, VPN restrictions, and internet outages across the country.

As a reminder, Putin announced an Easter truce.
