Amid the fuel crisis, Russians are flocking to the internet to find out when the war will end

Against the backdrop of the fuel crisis and regular drone attacks, people in Russia have begun searching online much more frequently for information about the end of the war against Ukraine.

According to Yandex, during the week of June 22–28, the search query “when will the special military operation end” was entered approximately 137,000 times. This set a record for the entire duration of the full-scale war.

Interest in bomb shelters has also surged. In May, residents of Moscow and the Moscow Region searched for information on sheltering from drone attacks more than 33,000 times, which is more than three times the figure from early 2025.

In addition, the number of search queries for the term “UAV” reached 785,000 in May, compared to about 163,000 in January 2025.

As a reminder, the fuel crisis in Russia is intensifying: gasoline is running out at gas stations and lines are growing.

Russia has allowed the use of lower-quality gasoline due to the fuel crisis.

Russian authorities are preparing to launch large-scale gasoline imports from India to compensate for the fuel shortage in the domestic market. This is evidenced by a draft amendment to the Tax Code aimed at stabilizing the fuel sector.
