In Volyn, operations at the Yagodin and Ustyluh checkpoints were suspended due to the threat of shelling
The “Yagodin” and “Ustyluh” border crossing points in Volyn have temporarily suspended operations in recent days due to the threat of Russian shelling. According to State Border Guard Service spokesperson Andriy Demchenko, the Polish side has also halted border crossing operations.
“The Polish side also suspends border operations when the Ukrainian side informs them that, due to the threat of shelling or an air raid alert, Ukrainian border crossing points in a particular direction are being suspended. Speaking specifically about the border with Poland in recent days, this applies to the “Yagodin” and “Ustyluh” border crossing points in the Volyn Oblast,” the spokesperson said.
Demchenko also noted that, in general, there are other sections along the Ukrainian border, including the borders with Romania and Moldova, within the Chernivtsi, Vinnytsia, and Odesa regions, where border crossings are also temporarily suspended during air raid alerts—this has happened over the past 24 hours as well.
“The procedure on the Ukrainian side is as follows: regardless of the specific border section, when border crossings are suspended, people are dispersed from the checkpoint as quickly as possible to prevent crowding, and to prevent a situation where, if an attack occurs, citizens planning to cross the border could be killed or injured. Well, as we can see, the Polish side, in such cases, is effectively taking the same steps to ensure safety at the checkpoints on its territory. While people are dispersing, those who have already completed the formalities can be quickly processed by the Polish side,” Demchenko said.
The State Border Guard Service spokesperson clarified to a Ukrinform correspondent that people who have not yet entered the checkpoint area and are waiting in line in their vehicles must also disperse.
It is important to note that in the event of an air raid alert, border crossing operations at checkpoints will be suspended; so vehicles are advised to move as far away from the border as possible, since the possibility of strikes on the area adjacent to the checkpoint cannot be ruled out, Demchenko added.
As a reminder, Poland will strengthen electronic security along its border with Ukraine.
The Polish Ministry of Finance has drafted legislative amendments that provide for the introduction of an electronic reservation system for freight transport at border crossings.
Poland has begun constructing new fortifications and reinforcing border crossing points along the border with Ukraine due to the growing threat from Russia.
