Nova Poshta Has Decided Not to Lay Off Employees Following the Incident Involving the Dog
"Nova Poshta" has reconsidered its decision to fire the employees involved in the incident with a stray dog in Sloviansk. The company stated that the employees will remain on the job, and the incident itself has prompted a review of the rules for handling animals at its branches.
The incident took place in Sloviansk, Donetsk Oblast. A video showing how “Nova Poshta” employees treated a stray dog went viral on social media and sparked outrage. Following this, the company conducted an internal investigation and initially decided to terminate the employment of the employees involved.
However, Nova Poshta later looked into the situation in more detail and reversed its decision. The company’s CEO, Yevhen Tafiychuk, announced that the employees would remain on the job. “We looked into the situation in more detail and revised our initial decision: the employees will remain with the company,” he wrote.
According to Tafiychuk, the employees realized that their actions were wrong. Afterward, they joined the search for the dog on their own. “That’s why you saw them in the photos on the day the dog was found. What they did was wrong. But I’m convinced that if a person realizes their mistake, takes responsibility for it, and is ready to change—they should be given a chance,” the company’s CEO explained.
“Nova Poshta” Wants to Change Its Rules
The incident highlighted another problem—the company didn’t have a clear enough procedure for how employees should act if an animal is found on the premises or in a branch. Now, “Nova Poshta” is reviewing its internal rules.
The company intends to establish a clear procedure for such situations. In doing so, it must balance both the humane treatment of the animal and the safety of employees and customers. In other words, in the future, employees must clearly understand what to do if a stray or other animal enters a branch.
What Happened to the Dog
The dog was found after the incident. “Nova Poshta” reported that the animal has already undergone an initial medical examination, necessary hygiene procedures, and grooming. The dog is currently in Kyiv. A company employee has taken it in temporarily, where the animal is receiving the necessary care.
The company will also try to locate the dog’s previous owners. If the owner is not found within the timeframe stipulated by law, “Nova Poshta” will look for a new family for the animal. At the same time, they want to find future owners who will take into account the dog’s health and needs.
The company wants to help stray animals
Yevhen Tafiychuk noted that this story has drawn attention to another problem—there are many abandoned animals in cities near the front lines. Because of this, “Nova Poshta” has begun communicating with foundations and organizations that assist such animals.
The company wants to understand how it can provide systematic help, rather than just reacting to individual cases. “For us, this story should not end with yet another wave of mutual accusations, but with lessons learned, a second chance for people, and systemic changes within the company,” Tafiychuk emphasized.

Earlier, social media users shared a video and posts about how “Nova Poshta” employees treated a dog near the cargo terminal in Sloviansk. The incident occurred during a heatwave. The video quickly went viral on social media and caused a significant outcry.
Initially, the company stated that, following an internal investigation, it had decided to terminate its employment of the employees involved in the incident. Nova Poshta also promised to provide additional guidance to the entire team on how to act in similar situations. Subsequently, the company reconsidered its decision to terminate the employees. Now the employees will remain in their positions, and Nova Poshta plans to amend its internal policies and work separately on assisting stray animals. Tafiychuk wrote about this on Facebook.
