More than 400 Russian children were sent to a camp in North Korea

More than 400 children from Russia, including 202 schoolchildren from Primorsky Krai, arrived in North Korea to spend their vacation at the “Sundowon” international camp. The cost of a single trip is about 80,000–85,000 rubles (approximately $1,020–$1,085).

The opening ceremony for the first summer session of 2026 took place on July 19, and children from North Korea and China were also invited to participate.

The program includes sports competitions, excursions to Pyongyang and a seaside resort, as well as a visit to a memorial dedicated to North Korean soldiers who died in the war against Ukraine. The “Sundowon” camp has been hosting Russian children since 2024: 250 schoolchildren were sent there that year, and another 170 in 2025.

Moscow medical facilities have recorded the first instances of doctors from North Korea working there, indicating the aggressor’s attempts to overcome an acute staffing shortage in the healthcare system by bringing in workers from Pyongyang. 

South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun stated that he had received assurances from Ukraine that the two North Korean soldiers captured by the Ukrainian military would not be returned to Russia.
