Portnikov explained the Kremlin's new information strategy
Journalist Vitaly Portnikov stated that reports about the possible breakup of Russia are part of the Kremlin’s information campaign aimed at putting pressure on Ukraine and its Western partners.
In his view, a column by Russian billionaire Andrei Melnichenko in *The Economist* and statements by an anonymous Russian general are intended to convince the West of the need to end the war as quickly as possible by making concessions to Ukraine.
Portnikov believes that the Kremlin is trying to push the narrative that the alleged dangerous consequences of a possible collapse of the Russian Federation for Europe and the U.S. would persuade allies to compromise with Moscow.
At the same time, the journalist emphasized that Western media often mistakenly perceive such statements as independent assessments, although he considers them part of a coordinated information operation.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine’s strikes on Russian fuel infrastructure have already yielded tangible results. According to him, a country that for decades profited from oil and fuel exports is now forced to seek opportunities to import energy resources itself.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has supported the idea of creating a network of small oil refineries in the country to increase fuel supplies to the domestic market.
