Ukraine struck three key targets in Russia
On the night of August 30, the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out strikes on several key military and energy facilities in Russia. The General Staff confirmed strikes on the Kirish Oil Refinery, a drone launch site, and the Yeysk military airfield.
According to the military, on the night of August 30, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck several targets on Russian territory simultaneously. Among them was the Kirish Oil Refinery in the Leningrad Oblast. It is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries. The Ukrainian military also confirmed the strike on a drone launch site. The General Staff did not specify its exact location but noted that the facility was used by the Russian side to launch UAVs.
Another target was the “Yeysk” military airfield in the Krasnodar Krai of the Russian Federation. It is from this area that Russian troops can use aircraft and other means to strike Ukraine. Therefore, striking such facilities is significant in terms of the Russian army’s ability to carry out attacks.
The General Staff emphasized that the operation was carried out by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. “On the night of August 30, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Kirish Oil Refinery, a UAV launch site, and the Yeysk airfield in Russia,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported. At the same time, the military has not yet provided detailed information on the extent of damage at each of the targets.
The day before, reports had already emerged in Russia of a drone attack on the Leningrad Oblast. Specifically, local authorities reported a fire in the Kirish industrial zone. Russian Telegram channels linked the fire to a drone attack. The Kirish Oil Refinery is a key facility in the Russian oil industry. The plant refines crude oil and produces various types of petroleum products.
Damage to such a plant could create additional problems for Russia’s fuel system, though the true scale of the consequences can only be assessed once more detailed information becomes available. The Yeysk airfield is also of military significance. Russia uses military aircraft to carry out strikes against Ukraine, and military airfields are part of the infrastructure that supports such operations.
Ukraine regularly strikes military targets on Russian territory in an effort to reduce the Russian army’s ability to attack Ukrainian cities and Defense Forces positions. This time, the General Staff officially confirmed the destruction of three targets at once—the Kirish Oil Refinery, a UAV launch site, and the Yeysk airfield. The Ukrainian side may provide further updates on the consequences of the strikes and the extent of the damage. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on the results of the nighttime operation.
Starting in the evening of August 29, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 130 strike drones and two ballistic missiles. Air defense forces destroyed or neutralized 125 drones, but strikes were recorded at 13 locations.
