Fire on Russian tanker in the Mediterranean reduces profitability of Russian gas exports
The incident with the fire on a Russian tanker carrying liquefied gas in the waters of the Mediterranean has become a significant argument in Ukraine’s and the West’s fight against the illegal export of Russian energy resources.
Retired Captain 1st Rank Andriy Ryzhenko highlighted three main versions of the cause of the fire on board the vessel during a broadcast on Radio NV.
Among the probable causes considered are an internal technical accident, a successful strike by a Ukrainian drone, or the consequences of the large-scale military conflict currently unfolding in Iran.
The expert suggests that the Ukrainian Defense Forces could indeed have carried out such a complex special operation. The main obstacle in such a scenario is the need to deliver the drone to a remote area of the Mediterranean, but Ryzhenko considers this task fully feasible for Ukrainian special services.
As a reminder, the Russian tanker Arctic Metagaz, under sanctions, caught fire in the Mediterranean. Russia has also accused Ukraine of attacking its tanker in the Mediterranean.
