Border guards rescued a Filipino man after a Russian drone attacked the ship
Maritime border guards rescued a Filipino citizen who had been adrift at sea for a day after the dry cargo ship Venturo was struck by a Russian drone. The man ended up in the water following the attack on the vessel and was found and evacuated by Ukrainian military personnel.
According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, on the evening of July 17, a Russian drone struck a civilian vessel in the Black Sea.
“Most of the crew were evacuated by military sailors, but one crew member—an electrical engineer, a citizen of the Philippines—remained in a drifting lifeboat on the open sea,” the agency reported.
The following evening, servicemen from the 26th Border Guard Detachment located the lifeboat using surveillance equipment and immediately set out to assist.
“The operation was carried out in complete darkness under the constant threat of repeated strikes by Russian drones. The sailor was successfully evacuated and taken to a safe location—no medical assistance was required,” the State Border Guard Service noted.
On the night of July 19, Russian forces launched a ballistic missile strike on Kyiv. One person was killed and eight others were injured as a result of the attack. Damage and fires were reported in five districts of the capital.
Over the course of July 17, Russian forces launched strikes on Kharkiv and 29 other settlements in the Kharkiv region. Two people were killed and 18 others were injured in the shelling; among the injured were five children.
Throughout the day on July 17, the Chernihiv region came under attack from enemy drones. Fires broke out in several districts at once, but Ukrainian rescue workers have already extinguished them.
