Advisers gave Trump important advice on Iran, but he ignored it — WSJ

U.S. President Donald Trump’s inner circle is urging him to significantly limit his public comments regarding the military conflict with Iran.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the American leader’s off-the-cuff remarks are negatively impacting his approval ratings and damaging the country’s international image.

The president’s advisers emphasize that his rhetoric is often inconsistent and contradictory.

Within a short period of time, the U.S. president may post diametrically opposed statements on Truth Social: ranging from threats of “destroying civilizations” to promises of establishing “eternal peace.”

“Trump’s closest aides have taken turns advising the president to limit the number of impromptu interviews, as they only convinced the public that his statements contradict one another,” writes the WSJ.

Despite brief periods of restraint, the U.S. president eventually returns to his usual communication style.

Donald Trump’s statements regarding cooperation with NATO are of particular concern.

The U.S. president alternates between demanding active assistance from allies in unblocking the Strait of Hormuz and asserting that the United States is capable of solving all problems on its own without anyone’s support.

According to sources in the White House, such improvisations often occur without prior consultation with relevant experts.

This poses a serious threat to the complex diplomatic efforts of American officials trying to find a way out of the crisis.

To reassure the public, advisers convinced Donald Trump to deliver an official address to the nation, which took place on April 1.

In this speech, the U.S. president focused on the successes of military operations and stated that the campaign’s goals would be achieved “very soon.”

However, as analysts note, even the official address did not provide clear answers to key questions.

The U.S. president failed to outline a specific strategy for ending the war, leaving open the question of how long U.S. troops would remain in the region.
