A military correspondent from Horlivka who supported the Russian army faces up to 12 years in prison

In Ukraine, a war correspondent from the temporarily occupied city of Horlivka has been formally charged in absentia with collaboration for publicly supporting the full-scale invasion and raising funds for the invaders.

This was reported by the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspect had long used his media resources to discredit the Armed Forces of Ukraine and promote the Kremlin’s criminal actions.

The pre-trial investigation established that the suspect deliberately defected to the enemy and made information work for the occupiers his main source of income.

According to the investigation, the man has been engaged in pro-Russian propaganda since 2014.

For many years, he systematically integrated himself into the media landscape of the self-proclaimed republics, carrying out orders from his handlers in Moscow.

His personal blog became the main tool for spreading anti-Ukrainian narratives and raising funds for the occupying forces.

He runs his own Telegram channel, where he justifies Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, spreads disinformation, and publishes materials in support of the Russian army.

The audience of this resource regularly received distorted information about the course of hostilities in Donbas.

In addition to providing purely informational coverage of the war, the suspect was directly involved in the logistical support of enemy troops fighting against the Ukrainian people.

Additionally, according to the prosecutor’s office, the propagandist organized fundraisers to support units of the Russian Armed Forces.

The funds raised were used to purchase equipment, technical means, and other supplies for the invading forces.

The media figure expanded his anti-Ukrainian activities to the book market, attempting to glorify the war crimes of Russian military personnel in print publications.

In addition, he writes books about the so-called “special military operation” and spreads disinformation regarding shelling of occupied cities. The author attempted to create a false impression among readers regarding the causes and consequences of the destruction of civilian infrastructure.

Law enforcement agencies provided a clear legal assessment of the suspect’s actions and gathered sufficient irrefutable evidence to bring him to criminal liability.

Prosecutors notified him in absentia of his status as a suspect under Part 6 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—collaboration. The penalty under this article provides for a very severe punishment given the gravity of the crime committed.
