Russia is trying to establish a zone of control along the border — Tregubov

Russian troops continue to exert intense pressure in the Lyman and Kupiansk sectors and are seeking to establish a continuous zone of control along the state border with Russia. This was reported by Viktor Tregubov, head of the communications department of the Joint Forces Operation.

“Overall, the situation is intense right now. The Russians’ main areas of focus in our area of responsibility remain the same—first and foremost the Lyman sector, and secondly, the Kupiansk sector. The Russians are also continuing their attempts to establish a zone of control along the entire Ukrainian-Russian border, to the extent that there are certain new sectors where they are trying to apply pressure. “Right now, the area near Kozacha Lopana is of particular concern, as they are trying to infiltrate there,” Tregubov noted, adding that the enemy has a numerical advantage, as well as sufficient reserves and ammunition to advance aggressively.

The spokesperson assured that the Defense Forces are holding back the enemy thanks to well-equipped positions, a network of drones, and an effectively organized perimeter. He also confirmed that the enemy continues to employ tactics involving small infantry groups and is increasing its use of guided munitions.

When asked what the biggest challenge facing the Defense Forces is, Tregubov noted that it is the enemy’s numerical superiority.

“They currently have no problems with manpower. And the enemy can replenish its ranks, whereas we face certain challenges with mobilization. That said, on the positive side, we have a technical advantage, an advantage in providing medical care, and a logistical advantage on most fronts,” the spokesperson emphasized.

Tregubov also noted that the enemy is trying to catch up with the Defense Forces in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), but as of now, it lags behind in the number of operators, according to Ukrinform.

As a reminder, 249 battles took place on the front lines over the past 24 hours, and Russia has stepped up its activities on three fronts.

As a result of a massive Russian strike on the capital, a leased humanitarian warehouse belonging to the Ukrainian Red Cross was completely destroyed; it had stored over 320,000 units of cargo and equipment with a total value of more than 79 million hryvnias

As a result of Russian shelling and a fire at one of the capital’s enterprises, fuel and lubricants flowed into Kyrylivskyi Lake in Kyiv via the storm sewer system.
