Russia shelled Sumy region nearly 60 times, one person killed
Russian forces carried out nearly 60 shelling attacks on 24 settlements across 12 territorial communities in the Sumy region.
This was reported by the Sumy Regional Military Administration (OVA) on Telegram.
“Over the course of the day, from the morning of January 3 to the morning of January 4, 2026, Russian troops conducted nearly 60 shelling attacks on 24 settlements in 12 territorial communities of the region. The highest number of attacks was recorded in the Sumy and Shostka districts,” the statement said.
As a result of the shelling, a 52-year-old man was killed in the Esman community after an FPV drone strike.
The enemy used artillery, mortars, FPV drones, UAVs, and guided aerial bombs against the territory of the Sumy region.
Over the past day, a number of facilities were damaged or destroyed:
- Novoslobidska community – a private household was destroyed.
- Sumy community – a civilian infrastructure facility, a private household, a non-residential building, and a car were damaged.
- Znob-Novhorodska community – a civilian infrastructure facility was destroyed; another facility, private households, and a passenger car were damaged.
- Seredyna-Buda community – a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged.
- Konotop community – a non-residential building was damaged.
Local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organizations, evacuated four people.
Ukraine’s air defense forces neutralized 39 out of 52 drones used by Russian troops to attack the country starting from the evening of January 3.
