Russia attacks Ukraine with 52 drones, Air Defense destroys 39 UAVs
Ukraine’s air defense forces neutralized 39 out of 52 drones used by Russian troops to attack the country starting from the evening of January 3.
This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Telegram.
According to the report, from 7:00 p.m. on January 3 the enemy carried out a massive attack using 52 strike UAVs, including Shahed-type drones, “Gerbera” drones, and other types of unmanned aerial vehicles. The launches were conducted from the directions of Kursk, Oryol, and Bryansk (Russia), as well as from Donetsk, a temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. About 40 of the drones were Shahed-type UAVs.
Aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces were involved in repelling the air attack.
According to preliminary data, as of 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 4, Ukrainian air defenses had shot down or suppressed 39 enemy drones in the north and east of Ukraine.
At the same time, impacts from 13 strike UAVs were recorded at 9 locations, and debris from downed drones fell at one location.
During Saturday, January 3, the Russian army carried out massive shelling of the city of Dnipro, as well as communities in the Synelnykove and Nikopol districts, using artillery and drones.
On the morning of January 3, Russian forces shelled Kherson. In the Dniprovskyi district of the city, two people—a man and a woman—were killed.
Russian military forces also conducted a massive attack using Shahed-131/136 drones on critical infrastructure in the Mykolaiv region, leaving parts of several settlements without electricity.
