Russia received a proposal for a ceasefire, but Putin did not respond, — Budanov
Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, stated that the Ukrainian side had submitted a ceasefire proposal to Russia, but Moscow has yet to respond. According to him, the initiative concerned not only the cessation of airstrikes on Ukraine but also hostilities on the front lines.
According to Budanov, the Ukrainian proposal was conveyed directly to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The drones are flying—you’ve all seen it,” Budanov noted, commenting on Russia’s lack of response.
He emphasized that this was not about a limited cessation of airstrikes, but rather a broader ceasefire that would also cover the situation on the front lines.
Budanov also confirmed that U.S. President’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will visit Ukraine on September 6.
According to him, representatives of the U.S. administration will travel to Russia in the near future. Budanov speculated that, due to their upcoming visit, Russian troops might temporarily refrain from striking Kyiv.
At the same time, he reported that Witkoff and Kushner are expected to arrive in Russia “in just a few hours.”
Earlier, it was reported that the U.S. representatives plan to first hold talks in Moscow and then travel to Kyiv.
U.S. President Donald Trump had previously stated that Witkoff and Kushner would bring a proposal to end the war.
At the same time, according to diplomatic sources, Russia is extremely pessimistic about the prospects of reaching an agreement during the U.S. representatives’ talks in Moscow.
According to sources, the Russian leadership is prepared to end the war only on terms set by Moscow.
Earlier, reports circulated in the media and among military bloggers about an alleged order for Ukrainian units to observe a ceasefire from September 5 to 8 on land, in the air, and at sea.
There was no official confirmation that the Defense Forces had received such an order.
After Russia resumed shelling Ukraine on September 5, the Armed Forces stated that Ukrainian troops continue to carry out their assigned tasks to defend Ukraine in accordance with the plan.
The command also emphasized that a unilateral ceasefire is impossible, as it poses a danger to the lives and health of Ukrainian servicemembers.
Thus, Ukraine declares its readiness for a ceasefire but expects reciprocal action from Russia, while Moscow has not yet provided an official response to Kyiv’s proposal.
Budanov spoke about this in a comment to “Suspilne.”
