Russia has begun spreading a new AI-generated fake story about attacks on gas stations in Ukraine
Russian propaganda has launched a new fake video, created using artificial intelligence, to manipulate information surrounding the attacks on Ukraine’s fuel infrastructure. The video, which is being passed off as footage from Kremenchuk in the Poltava region, is part of a large-scale disinformation campaign by the Russian Federation.
According to the Center, Russian media outlets are circulating a video purporting to show a destroyed gas station in Kremenchuk.
In the video, a man presented as a Ukrainian soldier claims that the gas station was attacked not by “Shahed” kamikaze drones, but by small drones; he accuses the Ukrainian authorities of inaction and claims that similar attacks will allegedly take place in Kyiv soon.
However, the Center for Countering Disinformation emphasized that this video was entirely generated by artificial intelligence.
The Center noted that the video first appeared on an anonymous TikTok account, after which Russian Telegram channels began sharing it widely.
“This video is a direct continuation of Russia’s disinformation campaign, in which enemy propaganda attempts to exaggerate the consequences of Russian strikes on fuel infrastructure in the media. The enemy’s goal is to create the illusion of a large-scale crisis, sow fear among Ukrainians, and demoralize society,” the Center for Countering Disinformation emphasized.
The agency urged the public not to trust unverified videos from social media, to verify information from official sources, and not to share content that may be part of Russia’s information and psychological operations.
