Russia intensifies attacks on Ukrainian railways, 18 strikes recorded since the start of March
Russian forces have stepped up assaults on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure. Key targets include rolling stock and facilities that ensure transport operations. Since the beginning of March, at least 18 strikes have been recorded. These attacks have damaged 41 objects, affecting both infrastructure functionality and transport safety.
This information comes from Ukrzaliznytsia.
“Since the start of March, 18 strikes have already been recorded — averaging six per day. The terrorist state uses UAVs and FPV drones for this,” the statement says.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia, 41 objects have been damaged so far this month. Among the main targets is rolling stock: 17 units were hit.
“The enemy is also attacking passenger carriages. This morning in Mykolaiv, an enemy UAV struck a passenger car. Ukrzaliznytsia’s monitoring team detected the drone in the air in time and evacuated the passengers. There were no casualties; a train inspector was injured,” the report states.
Additionally, locomotives, freight wagons, and specialized maintenance equipment have been targeted. Rail depots and bridges have also been attacked this month, with the majority of strikes occurring near the front line.
“Together with the military, Ukrzaliznytsia continues to monitor the airspace along train routes. When danger is detected, train routes are adjusted, passengers are evacuated promptly from carriages, and other safety measures are implemented,” Ukrzaliznytsia added.
On March 2, Ukrzaliznytsia canceled part of its train services due to the security situation.
As a reminder, Ukrzaliznytsia has introduced dynamic pricing for luxury tickets and new refund policies. It has also temporarily suspended eurobond payments.
