Russia attacked Ukraine with missiles and 130 drones; air defense forces destroyed and intercepted 161 targets

On the night of October 7, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, using anti-ship, ballistic, and cruise missiles, as well as 130 attack drones. As of 9:00 a.m., air defense forces had destroyed or neutralized 161 enemy targets.

 

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the attack began at 6:00 p.m. on October 6. The Russians launched “Zircon” and “Onyx” anti-ship missiles from the Rostov region, as well as “Iskander-M,” S-400, and KN-23 ballistic missiles from the Bryansk and Voronezh regions.

In addition, the enemy launched 48 air-, ground-, and sea-based cruise missiles—including the Kh-101, Iskander-K, and Kalibr—from the Vologda and Kursk regions, as well as from the Caspian Sea.

Russia also deployed 130 attack UAVs, including 46 jet-powered ones, as well as “Gerbera” and “Parody” decoy drones. The drones were launched from the Orel and Primorsko-Akhtarsk regions, as well as from occupied Donetsk and Gvardeyskoye in occupied Crimea.

The main targets of the attack were the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

According to preliminary data, as of 9:00 a.m., Ukrainian air defense forces had destroyed or neutralized:

  • 5 ballistic missiles—including Iskander-M, KN-23, S-400, Zircon, and Onyx;
  • 39 X-101, “Iskander-K,” and “Kalibr” cruise missiles;
  • 117 attack UAVs, 38 of which were jet-powered.

Information regarding six additional cruise missiles is currently being verified.

As a result of the attack, missile and strike drone strikes were recorded at 18 locations. Debris from downed enemy targets fell at five additional locations.

The air attack was repelled by the Air Force, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

As a reminder, at least two people were killed in Kyiv as a result of the nighttime attack.

Russia struck Zaporizhzhia’s transportation infrastructure.

Russia also struck Dnipro with ballistic missiles, damaging a facility.
