Russia launched a massive airstrike on Sumy; there are casualties

On the night of August 6, Russian troops launched a massive airstrike on Sumy, using guided bombs. Civilian infrastructure in the city’s Kovpakivskyi district was hit. The attack left several people injured and damaged a shopping center, high-rise buildings, and other civilian facilities.

 

This was reported by Serhiy Kryvosheyenko, head of the Sumy City Military Administration.

According to the official, the Russian army dropped four guided aerial bombs on the city.

“The enemy carried out four strikes with guided aerial bombs on the city’s civilian infrastructure,” Kryvosheyenko said.

One of the main targets of the attack was a shopping center. Other city infrastructure facilities were also damaged.

According to preliminary data, at least two people were injured as a result of the shelling. They are receiving the necessary medical care.

The shock wave and debris damaged high-rise residential buildings, stores, non-residential buildings, and other civilian infrastructure facilities. Hundreds of windows were shattered near the epicenters of the explosions.

“The massive nighttime enemy strike targeted a shopping center and infrastructure facilities in the Kovpakivsky District of Sumy,” said the head of the Military Administration.

Following the attack, rescue workers, medical personnel, utility services, and law enforcement officers are working at the sites of the strikes. An assessment of the damaged areas is underway; specialists are documenting the consequences of the Russian strike and addressing its aftermath. Information regarding the extent of the damage and the number of casualties is being verified.
