Russian shelling damaged the sports complex at Shevchenko University in Kyiv

As a result of Russian shelling on September 16 in Kyiv, the sports complex of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv was damaged. The strike caused damage to the university sports complex building.

 

Valerii Kopiika, the university’s acting rector, reported this on Facebook.

“Last night, during the enemy shelling of Kyiv, our university’s sports complex building was damaged: the facade’s windows were shattered, the cladding was torn off, and the interior was damaged. Fortunately, no one was injured,” Kopiika wrote.

According to him, the site is under guard, and law enforcement has documented the damage. Cleanup efforts will begin shortly.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, a private home was damaged as a result of Russian shelling. A 65-year-old woman was trapped under the rubble; rescuers freed her and handed her over to medical personnel.

Russian troops struck a passenger bus in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Five people were killed in the attack, and seven others were wounded, according to Serhiy Hanzha, head of the regional military administration.

Over the past 24 hours, 278 combat engagements were recorded on the front lines. Russian troops carried out the most assaults in the Pokrovsk sector—Ukrainian defenders repelled 43 enemy attacks.

As of September 16, 2026, the Ukrainian military had eliminated 1,530 Russian occupiers over the past 24 hours. The Russian Federation’s total military losses have increased by another 1,530 soldiers.
